Our Commitments - Health and Safety

Health, Safety and Wellbeing

At VicComms, the safety of our people, partners, and the communities in which we work is our top priority. We maintain a proactive safety culture, supported by clear procedures, thorough training, and strong leadership. Every team member has a role in maintaining a safe work environment—whether in the field, in shelters, or at height. We continuously assess risks, improve controls, and promote incident reporting to ensure lessons are learned and improvements are made. Our goal is simple: zero harm, every day.

We understand that a healthy workforce goes beyond physical safety. VicComms promotes holistic wellbeing through mental health support, flexible working arrangements, and a respectful, inclusive culture. We foster a supportive environment where staff feel valued, heard, and empowered to seek help when needed. Our commitment to wellbeing extends to our contractors and remote workers, with measures in place to address isolation, fatigue, and stress. We believe that investing in our people’s wellbeing leads to stronger, more resilient teams.

Health and Safety Policy and Supporting System – ISO 14001

VicComms has established a comprehensive safety and environmental management system that aligns with both ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards. This integrated approach allows us to manage workplace risks, minimise environmental impact, and ensure compliance with all regulatory obligations. From tower installation to remote-area service work, our teams operate within a structured framework that supports safe practices, environmental awareness, and continuous improvement across all sites. Our policies are actively communicated, reviewed, and reinforced to support real-world performance and accountability.

Working Alone

Working in isolation, particularly in remote or mountainous areas, presents unique risks. VicComms has developed protocols to support lone workers, including GPS monitoring, scheduled check-ins, emergency escalation procedures, and pre-start risk assessments. We equip field staff with appropriate communication tools and provide training on situational awareness and incident response. These measures ensure that workers can operate safely and confidently—even when working far from immediate support.

Working at Heights

Working at heights is a critical and high-risk component of our operations. VicComms enforces stringent safety procedures and ensures all personnel are properly trained and equipped to perform elevated work safely. Our teams use certified harnesses, fall protection systems, and follow detailed Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for each task. We conduct regular audits, refresh training, and assess environmental conditions to eliminate risk factors. Safety at height is non-negotiable—and our procedures reflect this commitment.

Bushfire Awareness

Many of our operations take place in bushfire-prone areas. VicComms incorporates bushfire awareness into all relevant planning, training, and safety documentation. Our teams are trained to monitor fire danger ratings, understand evacuation procedures, and apply appropriate work restrictions during high-risk periods. We maintain equipment and readiness protocols for bushfire seasons and ensure all staff are aware of local conditions and emergency communication channels. This approach supports safe operations while protecting people, property, and the environment.
